Things to Do
The Turnagain Arm is known for its rugged beauty and dramatic scenery. Mountains rise sharply all around, with pristine lakes, glaciers, and forests adding to the stunning landscape.
Beluga Point offers some great views of Cook Inlet and Turnagain Arm. Beluga whale and Dall sheep sightings are common.
In Portage Valley you can walk through a rainforest and take in the great views of Portage Lake and the many glaciers in the area.
What You Can Expect
Your journey to the Portage Valley begins with a custom tour of the Turnagain Arm. As we journey south toward Portage Valley we will make a stop at Beluga Point for pictures and the opportunity to see whales and Dall sheep.
In Portage Valley you will have the chance to take a 10-minute walk through a local rainforest that leads to an overlook above Portage Lake. From here you can snap some lovely views of the many glaciers in the area.
On our return trip, sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
HIGHLIGHTS
Beluga Point
Popular photo stop with panoramic views of Turnagain Arm. Possible opportunities to see Dall sheep and Beluga whales. Beluga whales are often sited during later part of July through August when the salmon are spawning in the area streams.
Portage Valley
Enjoy breathtaking views of Explorer Glacier which overlooks a serene Portage Lake.
