The Best Way to See the Turnagain Arm

There’s no better way to explore the breathtaking landscape of Alaska than on a bike! The Turnagain Arm region provides a diverse range of self-guided bike tours for visitors to enjoy. Below we have listed a few of the favorites that we would highly recommend.

We have partnered with Downtown Bike Rentals to provide bike rental services to visitors. Their shop is located at 333 W. 4th Avenue in Anchorage.

The Turnagain Arm Shuttle can carry up to four bikes on select routes. Be sure to book ahead to ensure we have room for your bike.

Trail of Blue Ice
This lightly trafficked out and back trail spans 7.1 miles. A waterfall, forests, mountain views, lakes and plenty of wildlife abound along this moderate to easy path.

Byron Glacier Trail
Get great views of Byron Glacier from this easy to navigate out and back 3.2 mile trail. Access to the trail is located just a few yards from the Begich Boggs Visitor Center.

Bird to Gird
One of the most beautiful trails in the area, the Girdwood, Bird and Indian trail is perfect for any level biker. Pack a lunch and make a day of it, with plenty of picnic tables along the way. This trail spans 12 miles one way, 24 miles round trip.

Winner Creek Trail
This easily accessible trail has two parts – the 3 mile Lower Winner Creek Trail, which can be accessed behind the Alyeska Tram or Hotel Alyeska, and the Upper Winner Creek Trail which is an offshoot of the Lower trail and stretches 9 miles through a stunning high country for confident bikers looking for great mountain views.

Alyeska Resort Trail
A downhill park for those who want a challenge, the Alyeska Bike Park offers a true adrenaline rush experience on a mountain trail that requires extra protective gear and plenty of guts. This bike path requires transportation from the Bear Cub Quad, Ted’s Express or Glacier Bowl Express to take your bike to the top of the mountain where you start your adventure. Additional trails for all levels of experience are also available.
